HOW U JUKE THAT?!
A full-throttle celebration of juke culture, footwork energy, and the raw Chicago sound that rattled dance floors into history.
Headlining the night is DJ Slugo, a true Chicago icon and founder of Dance Mania Records. One of the original architects of ghetto house and juke, Slugo’s influence is global, his tracks are classics, and his sound is pure, unfiltered Chicago. This is living dance music lineage, delivered loud.
Backing him up is On the House, Cedar Rapids’ house music collective with groove in their bloodstream. L Dot, Sharlo, and Uncle Nico keep the tempo high and the floor moving, bridging local heat with legendary roots.
Fast, hypnotic, and unapologetically dance-forward. If you know, you’re already buying a ticket. If you don’t, this is how you learn. 🔊🖤

What is juke?
Juke is a fast, stripped-down style of electronic dance music that came out of Chicago’s South and West Sides in the 1990s. It grew from house music, but it’s leaner, rougher, and way more kinetic.
Here’s the quick anatomy:
• Speed: Usually around 150–160 BPM. It moves.
• Rhythm: Jagged, syncopated drum patterns that feel like they’re tripping forward on purpose.
• Sound: Raw kicks, claps, chopped vocal snippets, minimal melodies. No polish, all pulse.
• Purpose: Built for footwork dancing. The music and the dance evolved together, feeding off each other in basements, gymnasiums, and battles.
Where house music invites you to sway, juke dares you to keep up.
Artists like DJ Slugo, DJ Rashad, DJ Spinn, and labels like Dance Mania shaped it into a culture, not just a genre. It later rippled outward, influencing everything from modern club music to experimental electronic scenes worldwide.
So when the flyer says “How U Juke That?!” it’s not just asking a question.
It’s a challenge to the dance floor. 💥🕺
